Great American Pitchfest - Get Your Pitch On!

Regular scriptchat members have often heard me sing my praises for the Great American Pitchfest. Not only do I have deep love for its creative team, Signe Olynyk and Bob Schultz, but also for the event itself.  In my personal experience of pitching, it is indeed one of the most well run events and opportunities a screenwriter has to access producers, agents and managers.

Great American PitchFest is a two-day event on June 4th and 5th, and will be held at the Burbank Marriott Hotel & Convention Center with special guest lecturer, the famed screenwriting guru, Robert McKee. Seating is limited for his all-day lecture, so act fast and sign up.

Beyond McKee, that Saturday is a full day of free classes, and anyone who wishes to attend is welcome, no strings attached. One of the classes is one I’m presenting with my writing partner, Douglas A. Blackmon. We’ll be discussing Slavery by Another Name as a case study of adaptation.  Private consultation sessions are also available with a variety of industry professionals.

Sunday is the legendary pitchfest with over 100 production companies, agents, managers, and studio execs hearing pitches.  The cost for the pitchfest is $250, but it includes all your pitches and most writers meet with an average of 20 companies.  CLICK HERE for a list participating companies.  Don’t miss the cocktail party immediately following (included in your ticket). Some of the best relationships are formed over a glass of tequila. Go figure.

Speaking of parties, if you want to show off your singing skills, pop into Screenwriter Karaoke event by our own Merrel Davis and Xandy Sussan on Saturday evening.

If you have any questions, please either email info@pitchfest.com

The tickets always sell out, so I urge you to buy yours before they’re gone.  Tickets are available for $250 on the website

Please mention that you are a part of our scriptchat community when you place your order! We want to show our love.

But no matter what, make sure you mark it in your calendars to come on out for the free classes – they’re all excellent.   Come see me on Saturday afternoon for my class or stop by the pitching tables and say hi to Zac Sanford who will be hearing pitches with Jamie Livingston at his side.  We hope to see you there!

How to Handle Feedback from Reaction to Rewrite - Transcript April 17, 2011

#Scriptchat TOPIC: How to Handle Feedback from Reaction to Rewrite. This includes getting feedback as well as giving it.

Tonight we talked feedback. Getting it, dealing with it, ignoring it, and how to work your magic after someone has just blasted your script to smithereens.  In classic Scriptchat style, our topics sometimes get derailed, but with roll with it. Tonight we discovered a possible way to do table readings via Skype, and the First Dude of Scritpchat, Zac Sanford @zacsanford, sent out an offer to give FREE feedback to one of our chatters. Read the USA feed to find out how to enter the contest! You never know what will happen when the tequila starts flying. Enjoy! @jeannevb

@Jonathan_Peace: Sorry I'm late to #scriptchat but have spent the day rewriting to feedback from a studio. Hard to cut scenes I love but it works as a whole
April 17, 2011, 7:56 pm

@alli_and_that: Don't send your script out for feedback if you know you're going to change something. Change it first, then send it out. #scriptchat

@Rickallden: #Scriptchat I mostly write plays. Better I get harsh feedback from a director than a dissatisfied audience. Don't have to like him though!
April 17, 2011, 7:57 pm
